Stay ahead of the flu season with immunization
- Flu season is upon us and the best way to avoid getting sick is to get your flu immunization by the end of October.
- Mesa County Health Department will host adult flu immunization clinics Oct. 17 and 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Community Services Building , 510 29 ½ Road.
- Everyone six months of age and older should get the flu immunization.
- This year , the nasal spray will not be available , as it is not as effective as the immunization.
- Parents concerned about the pain from an immunization can distract infants by breastfeeding or offering sugar water.
- Parents can hold , help distract or encourage an older aged child to breathe deeply to manage pain and anxiety.
- You can still get a flu shot , even if you have an egg allergy. Talk to your health care provider about a flu immunization that works for you.
- Getting your flu immunization protects you , but it also protects those around you with immune-compromised conditions who cannot get the immunization.
- On top of getting your flu immunization , you can help stop the spread of flu with everyday preventive actions:
- Wash your hands with soap and water to reduce the spread of germs.
- Limit contact with sick people.
- Stay home if you are sick.
- If you are sick , cover your cough.
- Contact your health care provider to make an appointment for a flu immunization or call the Mesa County Health Department at (970) 248-6900.
- We work with clients on a sliding scale basis. Don’t let cost be a barrier between you and your health this flu season.
